yet 1 more Q on my 91 celica 2.2

my engine coolant sensor is trash i have went to every parts store in town which is like 8 o.O and everytime they order me 1 or have 1 in stock it is too small in diameter to thread in.The 1 in there that dont work is almost double the size any idea why all the parts stores would be matching the wrong part? I am a bit nervous not being able to tell if im overheating til it starts boiling or smoking

oh btw they even cross referenced the part # and had the same prob.

Are you sure you got the right sensor? If you order a coolent sensor, they'll order a coolent sensor. The plug should be green.

the end coming out for the plug to go onto is white and the plug itself is brown if that is a different sensor then why doesnt my gauge show my engine temp and which sensor is that?

Brown plug is cold injector timing switch. Look for the green plug.
Removing wrong sensor won't bring the gauge back. It won't work until you pull the right one and replace it.
