Drop the oilpan and use silicone, no gasket needed.

your gakset

an actual gasket is always a good but but you can use the make a gasket liquid silicone stuff too it will work for this application. the pan is right under the car put it on stands and you should have it changed in about two hours. don't foget to get new oil you have to drain the old stuff

thanks for the quick reply. I'm looking at the pan and there is a guard-type thing that is bolted to the bellhousing of the auto tranny. it kind of hangs under the oil pan and It's blocking some of the back bolts for the oil pan. does this guard come off the tranny? Thanks.

Don't think it cover any bolt for the oil pan. The bellhousing cover is only a few bolts.
