Gen5 One little question

Hey, I'm back with another question.

What is that little black half-circle on the dashboard by the right a pillar? My friends keep asking me and I don't know. When the light hits it right it looks like it almost has a bit of transparency to it.

'92 Celica GT-S

I thought it looked like a sensor too. But my car doesn't have auto headlights.

Unless the previous owner disabled them.

Am guessing same here - my '92 GT has a flat "plug" where that would be (and no auto headlights...), not the "sensor," but have a '05 Corolla S with auto headlight/sensor on dash, and had a '95 Olds 88 w/ same.....perhaps yours is disabled or faulty ???

Probably the sunlight sensor for the automatic climate control. I have a 93 GT convertible (no auto climate control) so have the plug there too.

You have me intrigued... I have that in my car too, but I thought it was for the thermometer for the the inside and outside temps. I will work my way next door to the toyota shop and see if anyone there can lend a hand as to what it could be.

Come to find out it is part of your automatic AC. The kind folks at toyota said that it is called a "Sun Power Detector or Meter." They also said that on some of the newer celica's it was for the automatic lights. The easiest way to check is to turn your ac off and the light should fade out, because it is an infared detector. Hope that little bit of information helps you out some.
