Wheel bearings- how do you get to them?

We're working on trying to replace the wheel bearing and in the process were trying to get the abs wheel off and it broke. Is there some trick to getting the whole unit apart so we can get to the bearins themselves? Is this something the mechanic needs to press or are we stuck buying a whole new unit for 300 bucks? Any aftermarket parts around?

ANY help would be appreciated.
THANKS.
