Normal. Its one of the problem with the engine. Check your oil level at least every month.

I just got a 2000 Celica GT with about 85k miles. Within 500mi used 2 1/2 quarts. I replaced the spark plugs after I found them covered with ash deposits. Worst spark plugs I've ever seen. Nice car with great fuel mileage but this oil useage has me concerned.
