Lifters - help

What is the down side to re-using lifters in a rebuild? I took the lifters out not intending to use them again so did not mark which lobe they came from, now am looking at getting new ones and the price is more than I expected.
The head was reworked but nothing was done to the cams

Thanks, Kerwin

On this engine, do the cams ride directly on the lifers and shims? If so, reusing the lifters should not be problem. Provided you readjust if required, the valve clearance.

It is possible the shim may have worn in with the lifter, but the shims are pretty hard. I have not heard of problems with swapping shims or installing new ones when adjusting the clearance. Still, you might check for shim surface wear. Or just turn them all over to present a new side to the cam.
