Question Oil Pan Gasket

Hey all,

I have an oil leak from the bottom of the engine and my mechanic suspects that it is the oil pan. I would like to replace it myself but have never done it before. Is this a fairly easy task? Any other things I should consider other that buying a new gasket?

Thanks for all the input.

D

Don't need new gasket, remove old one and use silicone.
You'll need to drop center cross member to get the oilpan out. Not hard, just messy. Make sure you put silicone right on the tranny side. Take note on how the oil gasket/seal goes.

Also on the topic of things to remove... I just did mine on my car be very gentle on the ten millimeter bolts on the pan, they break like woo. I you have the 5sfe you will also need to disconnect the front section of the exhaust (from the header to the cat.) It's not to bad just make sure you retorque the crossmember back to specs, because if your car is like mine then the last idiot who did it probably put it on with an impact and it is going to be a pain to remove. Goodluck and let me know how that goes!

Yeah, when I had my camry, I thought it was the pan but it turned out to be the cam, crank, and oil pump seal

by the way, here's some more 411. it only leaks when the engine is warm. and it leaks from the bottom, i don't see any oil from the top. it's leaking bad as i see a trail of oil drops when i'm at parking lots. i refill about a litre of oil every 40 kms or so.

i haven't taken anything out yet, i just had the car on stands and drained the oil.

thanks to all the replies btw

You need to clean the entire area, run it, get under there, and look for leaks.
