Question 89 Celica GT possible head gasket problem, new engine?

I have got my 1989 Celica GT and found out that it is leaking oil somewhere near the oil pan. I never see a drop of it on the ground ever. It just stays right below the engine bay. I go through about 2-3 quarts of oil every 2 months. I love this car and want it fixed. This is my 5th Celica I have owned. I am having a mechanic check it out right now. My question is, if this problem turns out to be a head gasket, that would cost me roughly $800-$1,000 dollars to fix correctly.

Wouldn't it be much better for me just to spend a few hunder extra to purchase a used or rebuilt motor? Is there something I am missing here? Problems that occure when doing engine swaps?

Also, what engines would make the most power but have little modifications needed to be done to fit it in my 89 Celica GT?

All your help would be appreciated,

Thanks,
david

Doesn't looks like head gasket problem. Could be other seals leaking. 89 should be a 4th gen and its 2.0L 3S-GE. In that case you can get a newer 3S-GE to swap in. If your's has TVIS, get another one with TVIS. Or else you'll need to swap ECU also.
I'll rebuild the engine with port and polish the head.
