well, i searched but there was no clear answer as most ppl have 5 speed trannies on here... anyways, i wanna do a drain and fill for my auto tranny some time this week or the next...wat's the best ATF for this car? i have a 92 GT.... and how much do i need?
btw, i can't seem to find any DIY for the tranny fluid change... and no pix too ... sorry, but i learn better with pix
the type of oil you need is on the transmission fluid dipstick.
Dexron *sp II or III should be what you need.
If your car requires dextron III you have to use III, but if it requires II then you can use either III or II.
Oh yeah, sometimes flushing ATF will cause your transmission to slip and take a shit. So as a cautionary statement. "Don't fix if it ain't broke on Automatic transmissions"

If it has been awhile like over 50k since the ATF was changed. Do not FLUSH the system just drain and refill with Dextron III. You only get 4 qts. out with the drain and fill method and there is still six qts of old in the tourque converter so the additives in the new ATF do not attackj the seals. But if the ATF has been regularly serviced you hav eno worries. BUT DON'T LET OLD ATF GET ANY WORSE. At least change SOME OF IT!!

just got done draining and filling up my coolant and tranny fluid... man, they were brown and black respectively :o i put in one whole gallon of the Dexron III
Check the fluid level when the engine is hot and running for an accurate reading and make sure you have the correct ammount of fluid. Too little or too much fluid will damage your transmission.
Does your dipstick have hot and cold imprinted between the notches like my Camry? On my Camry the upper pair of notches has hot written between them and the lower set has cold written there. The fluid should be somewhere inside the pair of hot notches.
