Running too RICH

Have 92 Celica GT 2.2. Motor swap from 91 Celica GT used block and head only. Check engine light on after motor change with code of MAP sensor. Changed MAP sensor but unable to reset. Car runs poorly at low speeds but fine when pushed at high speeds. Gas mileage at 14 mpg and back of white car now BLACK. Just bellows black smoke at idle. Looking for ideas, HELP!

RICK

Remove battery cable or EFI fuse to reset. Also check idle and timing.

Did both battery and fuse with no change. Timing OK also installed new wires plugs cap and rotor. At cold startup car does not like to idle right away. Then settles to approx 800rpm. After runing for awhile idle drops to around 400rpm. I am using haynes manual for spec on timing and reading check engine code. Check engine code is 3 1 which manual says is MAP is that correct?

When you say timing is ok, are you speaking of base timing or cam timing or both??
Are you positive the cam timing is DEAD ON.
If your cam timing is off 1 link it can be enough on some engines (even interference engines) to cause a vehicle to run poorly @ idle and very low rpms and clear up @ higher rpms.

When engine was in 91 before crash it was running without problem avg 24mpr. Moved engine to 92 used only block and head only swaped all 92 parts onto 91 including dist, injectors, intake etc. Checked timing and set as outlined in Haynes Manual. Got check engine light and code of 3 1. Haynes said MAP sensor which I ordered new and changed. Discon battery and removed fuse as per instructions in manual and check engine light came right back on. Again checked code and again MAP sensor. By the way drove 91 car after crash and it did run well.

I'm not to fluint with Toyotas so maybe someone else can answet this.

Are PCM/ECM the same part #'s for 91/92.. Does the MAP sensor read @ different parameters?
I don't know alot about toyotas, but I'm guessing it should have 3 wires going to the map. Ground, 5v reference wire, and signal wire. Maybe the 91 reads 2.5 volts @ 15 in hg while the 92 reads 3.2 @ 15. ETC, ETC.. See if they are the same part #. If they are then your problem is somewhere else.

I also am not to famalier with OBD I systems. Is DTC 31 for map sensor no reading, reading incorrect, etc...
If DTC 31 means it has NO signal from the map sensor then I would check voltage at the sensor with a multimeter. 3 wires. From bat ground one should read near 5v, one near 0v and the third should change as vacuum changes.
IF DTC 31 means incorrect signal from map sensor. I.E. The map should be reading a value of 2.5v and is only reading a 1.0v signal then I would guess that there is a vacuum leak.
