Crankshaft Pulley Holder

I am trying to change the timing belt on a 1990 celica 1.6L, 4S-FE engine.

Anyone have suggestions on holding the Crankshaft Pulley besides purchasing the Toyota Specialty Tool (which I have heard costs a couple hundred dollars)?
Anyone know of a universal tool to hold the pulley(such as a Schley tool)?

I tried the method in the Haynes manual where a couple of screwdrivers are used and the only thing I got out of that were scraped knuckles......

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Lou

you try hitting it with a good impact???

my cousin discovered a unique way of getting the bolt out, but you risk damaging the teeth on the starter. lol

not really.
1.- Spray WD 40 on the inside of the pulley.
2.- Get one of those cheap Harmonic Balancer pullers mine costed me 7 bucks
3.- Throw out the screws, theyre no good
4.- Thread Screw on puller tool, then place protective tip over screw
Here's the trick
I used a long 6 inch clamp and a pipewrench, grasp the puller and pulley together
5.- Thread puller screw a few turns, then softly hit the pulley to remove it slowly. Repeat turning

I did mine in about 3 minutes. Spent half a day looking for the tools.

P.S.
To remove screw just place a 1/2 inch ratchet with 1/2 inch socket and crank starter a little bit. Bolt comes out immediatelly. Dangerous if you're holding it by hand.
Let the starter do the work.
Good luck!!!!
