Rough running when cold

I have friend with a 94 celica and after starting it runs rough at idle and under acceleration until its warm. usually about 5 to 10 minutes. After this it runs fine , idles fine.
I don't know anything about celicas so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Whats the process for checking the fault codes (if there are any).

thanks

i have an idea! Let the car warm up like everyone else does. Fluids (mostly coolant) have to get to the right temperature. On your dash u will see a coolant temp gauge. When you turn on your car it is on the C for cold side, you want it to move off the all the way cold and warm up a bit. After you drive it for like 5 mins after a warm up the needle should be in between the C and the H for hot. At this point coolant temp is where it should be and car will run normally.

Not practical to let the car warm up for 10 mins before it gets driven. not like the climate is cold here in australia.
The car misses and jesks and stalls even if you let it warm up at idle for 5 mins before driving!
There is definately a problem and its not because the fluids are cold

I have traced the problem back to the number 2 cylinder . checked the spark plugs and leads , which are all fine.

next check is the injectors and a compression check

No fault codes!
