Resealing The 5SFE Distributor

Hello,

I'm working on a 97 Celica GT w/ the 5SFE 2.2 motor.

It appears the distrubutor is leaking oil from the center shaft seal visible with the distro mounted on the engine. It's a slow leak, but obviously not a good place to be leaking oil.

The car died, cleaning up the inside of the distro and replacing the cap/rotor allowed it to run again, but I need to go back in and fix the leak itself in the near future.

How bad is it to replace the shaft seal? Is there a seal kit for the distro and will it require any special tools to get the distro apart and/or install the seals?

Thanks,
-U

This happened to me as well.

You will need to replace the lower part of the distributor because there are no seal kits from Toyota. You dont need to get a new distributor just the lower housing and then swap some of the parts over. Not hard at all.

KBox sell them and I got bearing and seal for it. You'll need a press to disassemble the distrubutor.
