6-speed into '90 ST?

Since my transmission is not in too good of a shape, I figured I should replace my tranny. Now, I also want another gear. Did a bit of searching about, and found out that the late '90s Levins from Japan have a 6-speed(yeah, don't shake your heads, I'm new to Toyotas). Now the question that you could figure out on your own, but I'll ask anyway:Can I swap one into my 1990 Celica with the 4A-FE, and if so what would be involved? So, thanks a bunch for any information that you can impart to me.

P.S.I am crazy, no need for someone to tell me

It's very possible. It's even more pratical to get the entire front clip from the levins and swap the motor/tranny and maybe other suspension parts if needed. I have never heard of the conversion that you speak of. But I know it's possible and maybe even practical. There is probably a lot of swapping of your transmission pieces into the 6-speed transmission to get it to drive your front wheels.

What engines do Levins have? 4afe, 5afe, 5sfe?

hey i donno how much it helps but i Had a 20V blacktop tranny on my 7A-FE it worked fine except for the crappy gearing reving 4000 rpm at 110kmh. As for the install nothing needs to be modified to fit,

i heard one thing relavent for the 6spd, apparently the longer housing may interfer with the chassis? this may be false and may be different on your celica

I don't know the horsepower specs of the 4afe but putting a 6 speed transmission on an engine that barely puts out 100 hp is pretty much pointless. You really should just buy a whole clip and do a whole engine swap. Like you said though, you're crazy. If you just want the 6 speed transmission then it should really just bolt right up.

in addition to this question
would it work on a 5SFE or a 3SGTE?

Thanks for the info, but yeah, I'm beginning to think the best idea is to take the whole engine and trans, probably easier to get ahold of. Though I would like the extra gear to not have to pull 4000rpm at 80. I hate that so much. Next question, does the 4afe Corolla have a taller 5th gear/final drive than a Celica? Just wondering what I should look for.
