hatch struts - 2000

My wife has a 2000 Celica and now that cooler weather is here the weak hatch struts are allowing the hatch to bonk her on the head. Thought the dealer was kidding when he told us what replacements would costs - over $100.00 ea.

Are there any aftermarket shocks available yet? I have done a lot of searching but have found nothing after '99.

Thanx,

jh

I'll throw my two cents at ya.....

You can give the struts a slight bend on the strut shaft. That will help keep the hatch up. Struts are freagin' high dollar. I think they are worthless. However, somehow Saab put some hatch strut on their 9000s and the car is 16 years old and the struts still lift the hatch. It's wierd.

Even though they are a distributor in Europe, they are a very reputable brand among the 7th generation Celica crowd for their awesome turbo kits, trunk hatches, lambo door kits, customer service, etc.

Thanks for posting guys. Guess I will try the junk yard as the european shocks are EU129.00 or about $170.00.

Gen6 Hatchback Stays/Lifts/Struts

I have the same problem with my 94 ST. The local Memphis dealer said the parts are called stays and cost $157 ea. Try liftsupportsdepot.com (ebay seller - $57) and CSK / partsamerica.com ($20 ea). I think I am going to buy some from CSK.

They can build you a custom set in black or polished stainless.
