Distributor oil seal kit

I, as many of you have had a oil leak in the distributor area. Either the o-ring or the seal on the shaft is the culprit from what I have read.
There is a kit that Kbox http://www.kbox.ca/page16.html sells. The price is great but have any of you actually replaced the seal? I would like to hear how it went and things to do and look out for before trying it. I can get a bearing puller and have access to a press but I imagine the timing of the parts may be critical.

anybody?

thanks

I ordered the kit and just need to pick up a small bearing puller. The rest of the job looks doable.

Suspect the job will be easier then you think. Drive out the coupler pin and remove the coupler. I imagine the shaft slides out giving you access the internal seal. The coupler is ust a round piece of metal with a slot in it that engages the end of the cam.

Be sure to keep track of and/or mark every thing as you take it apart and put it back in the same location. If you access to a digital camera you can take a few photos for refeance as you go along. I would bring the engine to TDC on Cylinder No 1 just to have a reference point for distributor removal/installation.

The sensor pickups may or may not need to be removed. This being I assume a 5-SFE and the same as the Camry, some details on the distributor are available at the link below.

Thank you for the link! I don't think I need to put it on TDC since the distributor will only go in one way. I'll have a look inside before inserting the distributor. Hopefully the main body is not to worn.
I am looking for a bearing puller and should be fine. Can't wait to get the oil leak FIXED!

Don't need bearing puller. Just hit it out with a punch or steel rod. Make sure you hit around the bearing to get it out slowly.
Mark location of the piece that go into the cam shaft slot compare to rotor. I took mine off without marking it and don't know which way it should go. Timing will be 180 deg off if its wrong.

Does anybody have a 2.2 5s-fe distributor that they are parting out?

I broke the larger of the two magnets on mine today while trying to put it back together after replacing the bearing and seal. That part went fine but the last 1/8 I could not get the thing to go any further. I did not use excessive force by any means. I think I just got something **** eyed and that was it.
Any leads on the larger magnet would be great.

I replace bearings and all kinds of mechanical stuff at work but this just went wrong somehow. I followed the instructions on using the link
http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12755
but must of just missed something. I picked up a used distributor but did not want to break two in one day. Hopefully this one will not leak at least until I find the magnet part.
Oh yeah the Kbox http://www.kbox.ca/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=248
was fine.

Join the club, it least it was just a magnet, not something more expensive. I have obtained magnets from the dealer for other makes of cars, might start there. Practice installing the broken magnet before going to the real thing. There magnets are very brittle, some can be found already broken and still mounted in the distributor.

The dealer doesn't want you opening the distributor at all. That way they can sell you a whole new one for Boocoo bucks. They will sell you a o-ring though.
That is the good thing about this Kbox kit, they sell you what you need to fix the common oil leak but I may have trouble finding a magnet.
Thanks

You can buy just the bottom half from the dealer or a whole unit.

It is impossible for you to stick the distributor in wrong because it will only fit in one way. No 180 degrees stuff.

The one from the junk yard went right in and all I had to do was time the car which is a breeze. I imagine the bottom half is pretty pricey. If this one leaks since all I did was replace the o-ring then I will try the kbox kit again.
The only way you could get the distributor in 180 is if you did not make the offset piece with the shaft before pressing the pin out and even then you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

If this unit leaks, practice on the old unit until you get the feel of installing the magnets.

Well the salvage yard distributor is now leaking which is not a surprise since the o-ring was so brittle it practically fell off. I will probably practice a little on the old one with the broken magnet and if all goes well I'll give it another try. The new oil seal is in the old one so I'll just switch the magnets.
First though I will call the dealer to see if I can buy just a magnet.

In case your stuck, you can wrap the magnet two and a half times around with electrical tape. Lots of people have done this to keep the broken magnets in place and have not had any problems.
