Question Hatch doesn't stay open in cold weather

The hatch on my girlfriends 2000 Celica does not stay open in cold weather - soon as you put it up it immediately starts to fall back closed. Is there any fix for this or do the gas shocks need to be replaced? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

Replace the hatch struts. They're expensive but the only decent fix.

I heard a stick propping it up works too. lol

That's what I was thinking...I think I'll call the Toyota dealership in the morning to see what they cost, then look around on the internet for better prices.

check ebay, junkyards, in kc we have uwrenchit, aka picknpull, have anything like that around you, where the parts are cheap cause you have to pull them yourself? i'd advise that.
