Gen5 ECU Interchangeability

I dont think Interchangeability is a real word but i got a quick question about ECU's

i believe my ecu has gone bad and i want to replace it. are the ecu's interchangable? i have found a spare one and on the sticker they both have 3S-G M/T on them but the other numbering is different, also the bad one is in a celica and the new one is from a Mr2, same engine, spec and year. would this cause a problem?

thank you

I don't know for sure on the 3SGE, but the 3SGTE you can swap a MR2 ECU into a Celica [of the same year] but cannot swap a Celica ECU into a MR2.

I would guess yes, but guessing when it comes to ECUs can be dangerous.....
