Believe it or not, The AA63 in Japan had the 4A-GEU.

Don't know of anybody outside of Japan who has done it but it shouldn't be too hard.
But the RA64 is a bit heavy for this engine.
The 4A-GZE supercharged version is a better choice.
Don't use the 20 valve 4A-GE.
The distributor sticks out the back and hits the firewall.

Personally, I'd stick to the 22R.
These things respond well to the usual techniques like upgrading the exhaust, carbs (or EFI) and cams.

The problem I'm running into is that I threw a rod on my 22r and I am having a problem finding one. And I have a 1982 so I'm carb'd, and the only ones I can find are fuel injected. I figured since i'd have to do a complete motor swap, I'd go with something that I have available, as in a 1991 Geo Prism GSI with a grenaded tranny for tow away that has 75,000 miles. I live in North Dakota and finding import parts readily available are very hard to come by.

You can take bits from both carb and EFI motors and make one good one.
Take care about mixing some bits from tall and short deck versions though.
Read this stuff about 20/22R engines to tell them apart and what bits interchange.
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/stepho/eng20r.htm

I don't know too much about the 22R myself (we only got it for one year here in Australia and only as the EFI 22R-E) but I wrote up that page from info given to me by some knowledgable Americans.

You also have the option of running the EFI version in your RA65.
The 4A-GE would have required wiring up the computer too, so you were already considering this (possibly without knowing).
Wiring up the computer isn't all that hard.
Also need to upgrade the fuel pump to an EFI fuel pump.
Might also need to double check whether the later model engine mounts bosses are in the same place as your old engine.

You can also consider a crate engine.
There's about half a dozen engine builders that specialise in building street and race 22R's.
