Canada 85 celica 22-RE fuel pump fuse

I could use some help. My tester tells me I have no power to my fuel pump. I thought it might be a fuse or inertia(cut-off) switch. My Haynes book has no info. on either of these. There are no fuses labelled "fuel pump" in the kick side panel or under the hood. Ad the book doesn't tell me where the inertia switch is? Any ideas? Is the fuse labelled under another name ? Thanks !

Look for the EFI and IGN fuses.
Could also be a faulty fuel pump relay (a common fault) or bad grounds (also common but less so than bad relays).

Buy a circuit tester (just a metal probe, a light bulb and some wire) and trace the circuit diagrams in the Haynes manual.

do what stepho says spend the 5 dollars on a fuel pump relay. no power means bad relay.
it should be in that black plastic box under your hood if its not written on the top look on the bottom of the cover. some cars have them under the dash, like hondas. i had an 85 myself years back...........ahh memories

The fuel pump is only powered when starter is on or the engine is running.Turning ign.switch on will not turn the pump on. To test the fuel pump:
  1. Locate yellow connector near the air flow meter
  2. Remove cap from it and put jumper across two teminals, turn ign.on
  3. If pump runs now, start the engine
  4. If engine starts and runs , check the circuit opening relay (located near EFI comp)
  5. If pump is not running, check for power on the blue wire near the pump
  6. If power is present, jump other pump terminal to the ground
  7. If pump runs, repair bad ground wire (wht/blk). Note: on many models pump also has in-tank ground and could run with external ground disconnected.
  8. If pump sill not working, MOMENTARY reverse polarity on pump, then reconnect it normal way. If pump works now, the pump motor brushes are worn and the pump needs to be changed (tip from S. Kornienko, Autodata.ru)
