Smelling Fuel in Cabin

I've got an 89 GT (3SFE) and I can smell fuel in the cabin of the car when I run the A/C or the heat from fresh air outside. Also, I can smell it strongly when I smell right underneath the front windshield wipers with the hood closed. It sounds like a fuel leak, but I don't know where. It never leaks fuel outside and I never see any fuel dropping to the ground so if it leaking, I think it's leaking into the engine. But then, why do I smell it? Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this before?

Running the air cond or heater will suck air from just above the bonnet (hood).
If you have a small leak (just enough to cuase some vapours but not enough to cause visible spots on your driveway) then these vapours will be sucked into the cabin.

Might also be the fuel tank vent line in the boot (trunk) coming loose but you said the smell was towards the front.
