MAF Issues...

Quick question guys, i have a 91 celica w/ a 3sgte swap and when the gas is put to the floor the maf seems to be throwing a code causing the engine to run in limp. I know its the maf cuz i get out and unplug it... plug it back in and the engine runs fine until i attempt to give it some gas again, is there any way i can test this before i go replacing the thing?

Did you use the 5sfe maf or 3sgte? And i would try ebay or a jukyard before buying a brand new one. The 5sfe one is 350+ at pepboys and i got two working ones at a yard for $10.

Sounds like what a bad MAF sensor would do. I wonder if you can spray Seafoam or other cleaners in there and see what happens. Can you find some service info, the MAF system can be checked using a voltmeter? The voltage will vary with airflow.

Try junkyards, web based dealers, Ebay, etc. Saw a MAF for a 3SGTE on a MR2 on Ebay.

I think the MAF uses a hot wire design. If so, doubt 14PSI would do anything to it.
