A few suggestions. Is the rotor turning? Disconnect high voltage wire to coil. Hold wire end about ½ inch from chassis ground point and crank engine. If yes, for spark check at the plugs. If no spark check for battery voltage to the coil and igniter with ignition switch on (Black/Orange wire). If yes, check resistance of coil windings when cold. Primary 0.40-0.50 ohm, secondary 10.2-13.8 ohm. If OK, check resistance of distributor pickup coil 140-180 ohm and presence of air gap (0.008 inch).

Check wiring between ECU, distributor and igniter. The grounding wires appear to be Brown and White/Black.

Question

thanks. ive been trying all sorts of things. i got no spark when having the high voltage cable near the car. there is 4 wires going into the igtion a black/orange, white blur line red dots, solid white, solid black. into the coil there is two wires black/orange, and white/bluestripe red dots. i get no spark at all i know its most likly in the wiring however is there any ways to troublshoot or simply jump out the wires to see if i can make spark and then retrace all the wires?

one quick question, what year is your 3sgte and what year is your ecu? There is a difference. The 90 3sgte wiring hrness and computer are pined differently than the 91-93 3sgte's. only reason i know this is i bought a 3sgte with a harness and ecu all together and had the same problem. come to find out i had a 1991 3sgte out of an altrac and a 90 ecu out of a mr2. well good news there is an easy way to find this out, take your feul injection relay out and put in your old ecu figureing it is a 5sfe if you get spark then call toyota with the numbers off the ecu they can tell you what year ecu it is. just DONT try to start it the 5sfe ecu the timming and feul managment are way off, this is why taking the feul injection relay out is important. If you need to repin your ecu i have the diagrams you need.
