Looking at buying a Celica

Hey I am in the market for a Celica right now and I am looking at a 2000 GTS 6spd. Everything about the car is amazing except that it has 218K miles on it. It was driven by an older gentleman one owner and is now at a dealership. The price is perfect at $4,995. Anything I should be looking at when buying this car? Ive done a carfax, everything is clean and he had it serviced on time everytime. The interior is immaculate as is the exterior. I dont think I can pass this up even for the amount of miles. What are your opinions on the car?

Nobody has an opinion? I am going to test drive it again later today, and take it to my mechanic to have it looked at. I really want it, but the only thing that worries me is the mileage.

well for that price, and even if it came to it, you could buy a new lower milage engine and still come out with a good deal.

Personally I think the 2k celicas feel a little cheap, and since they are generally in the same price range as the RSX, I like the RSX better.

But it's personal preference, and if you're ok with the miles then I'd say go for it.

You'll have to do some research online to find an engine importer. Find a few more new celica centric forums as well.

Check lift action (above 6k rpm) ... busted lift bolts are a common 7th gen issue. Pay attention to shifting... feel for grinding... synchros are another common issue.

A Corolla or Matrix 2ZZ will go in w/a lil modification... if ya can't find a Celica engine. If worse comes to worse... a new engine is around $6.5K.... a new short block around $1.4K
