Newbie help: how to check if wheels fit.

I just received my set of rims for my 1991 st185.

I know the stock offset should be +38, however, the wheels that i received are +42. Oh one other questions I want to ask is, how do you check the offset on your rims? i was looking at the rims today, and there are no measurement for offset printed on the rim.

anyways i plan to have these wheels on my car soon. So, after i have them on my car, how do i check if the wheel is fitted properly? (i.e. no rubbing, not hitting suspension, anything else to look for?)

i want to try to avoid getting spacers for now, b/c 4 spacers = lot of $$$. I'll also need to get hub rings too, if i get spacers, i'll have to get different hub rings, which would add to the $$$.

I'll have pictures up later.

Wheel offset calculator

What wheels are they? They can be checked online (ie offset, weight, bolt pattern). Why would you get wheels that may rub before making sure they fit and work? Doesn't seem logical to me.

well, received them and they don't fit. i bought them because i was getting a good deal and that, if it doesn't work out, i can 1. get spacers, 2. sell them out and look for something else, either way no loss, except for time.

the wheels i got are enkei 17 x 7 , +42mm, with 225/45/17 tires.

they don't fit, mechanics says its b/c of the wide tires, he said i could get 215mm tires and they would fit. but i don't really believe him.
