Smile 2002 celica timing belt or timing chain?

Hi all.

I own a 2002 Celica GT. My mileage is over 109,000. Does my year and model of the Celica have a timing belt or timing chain? Is it easy to replace them or better to have an auto shop do it? Is there a way to check to see if it needs replacing?

Thanks!

The GT uses a belt, if you aren't mechanically inclined don't try to DIY unless you have a few days or so to get used to working on a car. The belts are usually good for slightly over 70k miles, though Toyota recommends every 60k. The numbers may be a little different for your year Celica though.

No dude, the 1ZZ-FE has a timing chain - no need to change it.
