anyway my gf just bought a gts and it has 90k miles. well the problem is that the speedo starts to bounce around when you pick up speed rather quick! it does fine if just running steady or just normal driving. it happens in every gear. I'm not sure what it could be, so any help would be very appreciated!
hmm no replies. anyone else had this problem? i have heard it could be the speed sensor or cluster. i saw that i screwed up on the thread title on the Celica part, whoops! any recommendation which to buy first?
sorry should have been little more specific, yup it's the mph. don't have another one to try but would be nice. see i was thinking more of the gauge myself. i am curious to know if i could test maybe the sensor with a voltage meter? if so whats the specs on that, well if anyone knows the specs! Thanks

The VSS sensor is located in the tranny. The VSS wire is also hooked up to the back of the guage so that may be easier. I dunno the color for that wire.
i'm going to look into it, but not sure if that will help. seems if it were the sensor then it wouldn't work at all. it would be nice though if it is just loose connection. i dunno, i'm leaning toward the cluster more and more. anyone know the going rate on a cluster for a gts, found one for $133 shipped, unknown miles though good or bad price?
Have you checked to see if you can get just the speedo brand new from the dealer?
wwww.1sttoyotaparts.com is a cheap online dealer.
You should be able to check the speedo signal.
It's an AC signal IIRC.
See if it rises steadily or if it bounces.
Or take it to the dealer to get diagnosed [They have the scantool that can read all the inputs. I don't know if an aftermarket one will pick this up or not].
haven't hooked the voltage meter to yet, but tomorrow i will and see whats up on that. haven't called the dealer for that part but i know the speed sensor is $219. to afraid to call the dealer about the cluster lol. i had the car scanned at auto zone cause the check engine light came on, but nothing come up on the speedometer. i know that scan told me it had a misfire on basically all the cylinders, which could been spark plugs, vacuum leak or faulty coil or coils rather or high or low fuel pressure. which i went with spark plugs to fix that and solved the problem. i wish i could have no problems at all, but as of now everything seems to be at least 2 things it could be or more. i have another cluster coming for $125 shipped and hoping that will be the fix, if not I'll sell one of them and buy the sensor lol. i called the dealer though and they said it's one or the other they didn't really have a way to tell! seems they could do what I'm going to do and see what the signal looks like coming from the sensor, but I'm just glad i have owned fords, lol! also glad I'm quite comfortable working on cars. when i find out what fixes it I'll post back and maybe help someone else that may run into this problem. Thanks for the replies, very appreciated!
well i nerver got around to testing it with voltage meter. i did replace the entire cluster with a used unit. the results were the same. so i took the speed sensor out and inspected it. seems everything was in order on that, so i cleaned it with wd40. i then used some grease and some atf fulid. so now i have it fixed but dunno how long, if it does again, i'll replace the sensor. so if anyone has this problem try cleaning the sensor. Thanks for the replys
