Cam Timing - something is wrong

I'm in the middle of a rebuild of my 1ZZ engine and something is wrong with the cam timing. I have the cam dots horizontally aligned on the cam sprokets and the yellow chain links lined up with all three sprokets but the exhaust valves are touching the pistons. I have crowler rods and Wiseco pistons.

From what I can figure out, there is a dot with the letter “EX” next to it on the right cam pulley (when you are facing cam pulleys) that needs to be aligned with a dot on the left cam. When setup correctly, another dot on the right cam pulley should be almost at the top. And another mark on the right cam should be just over one chain link to the right of top. There should be 8 links between the two marks at the top of the pulleys.

Download the info from both links below for a better understanding.

Wink You're right

Spoke with Monkey Wrench Racing and they indicated I misunderstood the manual and used the unmarked dots instead of the EXH dot to line up horizontally with the dot on the other cam. No damage to valves or pistons although they did make contact when we turned over the engine.
