Question 1994 GT 2.2L engine idle problem

When my car has not run for a while (>12 hours), when I first start it up, the engine idles rough and then dies. If I re-start it and hold the accelerator down enough to maintain about 2,500 rpm's for a couple of minutes, the engine then stays running. Once it gets warmed up, it seems to run fine.

I just replaced the plugs (plat) and wires less than 25,000 miles ago. Could this maybe a fuel filter problem? If so, how hard is it to change one in a '94? (The "check engine" light has not come on either.) Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Try cleaning throttle body. Also check and see if you can locate a idle adjust screw on the throttle body.

The 5sfe in the '94 Celica doesn't have an idle adjust screw. I've asked the question myself about adjusting the idle when I had one in the Celica forums. Didn't really get an answer.

IAC valve controls idle. Or does the engine have a cold start valve? The key is run OK hot, but not when cold. Something is warming up, a sensor turning on/off, a valve breaking loose. Bad EGR will cause rough idle but tends to stay rough.

I think your engine is in the process of warming up. Still happens with my ride bro. Though, I'm not sure if something needs to changed or not.
