unusual oill leak

Today I'm at the gas station filling up the power steering and i notice a puddle of oil (? don't know what else it could be) on the plastic cover between the headlight assembly and hood latch under the hood. I have no idea where this can be coming from as everything under the hood is extremely dry, except on the passenger side corner near the firewall (powersteering leak). Do you guys know what might be up? I just changed the valve cover gasket so I know that's not it. It's a '92 gt with 222k on the clock.

That power steering leak is most likely the idle up vacuum valve that screws into the bottom of the power steering pump. A dealership will want to change the pump for big bucks. The part is $80-100 depending on your area. The same part was used on most Toyotas and Lexus from the late 80s until present (or at least the 05-06 Land Cruiser). You can get the part at the yard for $5 or less (cost me $2) and replacing it is a 30 min (tops) job as long as you have a 17mm (or equal SAE) crows foot wrench and some socket extensions, just because of the awkward placement of it (at least on my 88 GTS). Save on the power steering fluid and prolong the life of your pump.

As for your other oil find - haven't a clue, but make sure it's not traveling from somewhere else and that's just its final resting place.

Also check auto trans fluid just in case a cooler line is leaking.

Oh yeah, and my tagline...
"If you can't get the help you need on this site, try www.celicatech.com. That site is loaded w/ some very experienced Celica nuts (and I mean that in the kindest way possible).
