Start up after rebuild questions

After the rebuild I am finally getting to the point of starting and driving. Took it out for a first run down the street today, seemed to be ok in 1st gear but when in 2nd it seemed to lose power. Does this sound like the clutch needs to be adjusted more or what else am I missing? Maybe timing?

Thanks, Kerwin

If u rebuild the engine, you need to wait out and let the engine sit at idle without driving it for a few days. U need to allow the rings, casket and berings, etc, etc break-in. After that drive it in the streets under 35mph. The last thing u wanna do is drive it in the freeway.

Let the engine break in and free up. Keep revs to about 70% of max. If driving on the freeway, vary the engine RPM, don’t operate at a constant speed (RPM). Try not to operate in stop and go traffic. The idea is run through the gears, as the engine breaks in it will become free to move up to max RPM and power.

Change the oil and filter after a couple of hours of operation. Then again at say 1k, cheap insurance.

3rd Generation

I think this is exactly why a lot of cars endup in the junkyard sooner than expected. When u rubuild an engine it should break in first before u force it by driving it. New Parts should start to wear and sit comfortably, and not be forced to break in. Freeway should be avoided at all times, until about the second week.
Ask any old shool great mechanic and he'll tell u the same.
