4th Generation 83 Celica GT help

I had just bought this Celica from a friend whos going into the navy and it sounds like a tractor. Im pretty sure it needs a new exhaust manifold and whatnot but not positivly sure.
Looking to see if someone or someone can find something to see what the engine size and whatnot is for it, cue to tuning it to make it a tad bit faster than it is. Mostly need info on what i can do for it to make it for like a turbo or SC. Thanks for the help!

It's a 22R 2.4L engine. Check the pipes and find out where it's leaking. It may be the header pipe coming off the manifold instead of the manifold. It could be any pipe, muffler, cc, etc. You have to get down there and inspect it to find the leak.

Look up 22rte or 22re for any performace items you may want or facts on turboing the 22re. The engine bay is actually big enough for a 5mge swap Look up "Supracharged" on google, you will find info where people have done it in the trucks and even writeups. Most of the info you will find will be bassed on the 22re in trucks but the info will also work in the celica. Have fun!

Then, I think u need the 22ret (turbo computer, cables, and fuel injection). You can get one on ebay too.

You can also supercharge the 22R.

Try this as an example:

The exhaust manifold-to-collector pipe has a donut type gasket that is common to blow out. It's cheap and relatively painless to change, if you have a 14mm deep socket and a long extension.

if you are removing any exhaust bolts, make sure to use WD40 to loosen up the rust and avoid breaking a bolt. Spary it 15 to 30 minutes before u start removing. If the studs start unscrewing, then turn it clockwise (80 degrees) and then turn it counter clockwise. This will avoid any unwanted bolt (stud) breakage.

If u r talking about the Supra's engine, they say it does but with a lot of modifications. I've seen discussions online on the subject, such as cuting the engine bay to make it fit, all the cables, etc, etc

I agree with Tony.
It's possible to put any M series engine in (including the 6M-GE) but it is tight and requires a lot of custom work (which equals $$$ and frustration).
And all that front end weight will make it handle around corners like a three legged pig.
A modern engine like a 4 cylinder 3S-GTE would produce more power for about the same amount of custom work and would handle better.
I'd stick to the 22R turbo option.
Find a 22R-TE ECU or buy an aftermarket ECU.
Even without a turbo, a modified 22R can produce quite respectable HP.
I have some 22R engine details at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...pho/eng20r.htm

That is right a 22ret (turbo) would be the perfect match. A 3sgt (turbo engines in celicas and mr 2) is another great choice if u want to stick with 4 cylinder toyota machines. Try Ebay and be patient if u wanna go 22ret turbo. They usually sell parts for a low price. Remember to go forged pistons so the internal parts stand any performance modifications. Also if you have the 85 and and newer 22re engine it is compatible to turbo ( I mean the block could be easily transformed to turbo with some machine shop help.

I'd wait until you can get the forged pistons.Otherwise you will have to pull the engine apart again.Interiors parts are not available (unless you get real lucky)Visit lots of junk yards or do a custom job.Don't forget that Supra interiors also fit (except the 6 cylinder tacho).- Stepho
