lifter noise?

This would probably be my last thread, but the mechanic that came over to buy my car checked out the engine and said it has a lifter noise, on higher rpms you dont hear it anymore. How hard is this to fix? he was going to buy the car for 500 until he said there was that lifter noise. He now wants it for 200? is there anything fishy going on? He called back saying he has another motor at his workplace which has a good top. Is the topn really worth $300? The sound that i hear is like a little scraping noise every fraction of a second.
I really dont wanna get ripped off and need a better car.

It's not worth fixing. He may be right about the noise. But as long as the car runs sell it to someone else. A scrapping ain't nothing too bad. To fix it..... Replacing the engine isn't that bad of an Idea. I replaced my engine on a 92 celica just because of a stuck lifter. There's my two cents
