Unique Engine Swap Problem
So here's the lowdown:
I have an '89 GT
I wanted to put the 3SGTE in it, so I got one off the '88 Alltrac.
I overcame the usual problems, everything is assembled and looked good. I did have to get the transmission off an '89 GTS as my GT's tranny somehow got a crack in it. Anyway, a rather unfortunate problem has cropped up with the starter motor. Where it is now, the starter would be in the way of the turbo. No problem, just flip the starter to the other side, right? Unfortunately, there's a transmission in the way of doing that. Comparing now, there's clearly a space cleared in the Alltrac tranny for the starter that the GTS transmission does not have!
I am entertaining the idea that I wasn't actually given a GTS tranny, I actually received it from a third party. Does the GTS tranny have that space cleared in the bellhousing for the starter? Was I entirely mistaken and should have gotten a 5SFE tranny instead of one from a 3SGE?
