A/C Problem help 93 Celica ST..Long

93 st 5sfe w/auto t/m

Problem: Condenser fan motor shorted and melted the shroud and the fan blade... Blew the fusible link on the right side of the engine bay and also the fuse under the drivers side dash.

Fix: Replaced Complete fan, blade and housing, fusible link and fuse. Was not getting power to the wire that engages the clutch. So I pulled the 3 relays on the left side of the engine compartment and swapped "fan 3" and and the one marked "a/c MG", the other (fan 2) was not interchanable . The a/c took right off and worked fine.

Here it is 2 days later 95 degrees out and the a/c has stopped working again. I suspect one of those 3 relays is bad.

My question is, how do I test them... Autozone wants upwards of 35 to 45 bucks apiece and I really don't want to spend the money to guess at which one is bad.

I have searched the forums to no avail, I only came up with later model diagnstic help and it wasn't real clear.

I am very automotive literate and have the tools. I just need a step by step trouble shooting aproach on finding the bad relay.

Thanx in advance

The relays are 12V DC. The normal test is to apply this voltage to the coil side to see if it works. An ohmmeter connected to the terminals when the coil is on/off will indicate if the switches within the relay are working. The link below provides info on automotive relays.

One idea is to download the Gen_3 Camry wiring diagram of the A/C and condenser circuit (link below). This car uses the same engine, the circuit appears very similar to what you are describing.

Also instead of buying relays see if you can pull them from a junker at a autoyard.

Weird

Left work last nite and it was running... temp cooled to around 80 - 85. A/C worked perfectly..

Somehow HEAT is playing a role in my problem.

Thanx
