Alltrac newbie needs help!

I have a 1990 Celica Alltrac in the shop for repair. The shop is an experienced auto repair shop, but has not dealt with an Alltrac before.

They have replaced the clutch and the rack and pinion, but now they are having problems getting the transmission case fitted to the engine. The car has been in the shop for weeks!

I have bought the Chilton Toyota Celica 1986-93 Repair Manual (68252) and will be bringing it to the shop today with the hope that it contains enough information for them to complete the job.

Just in case the manual is not enough, is there anyone in this forum that can help provide the shop with the necessary technical information to get the job done? The shop is located in Garden Grove, California (Orange County). I'll be willing to pay a reasonable price for some help if they still are struggling with the job next week.

Albert

[note: this is a cross posted another forum... I hope that it is okay.]

Ditch the Chiltons and get a Toyota manual.

Did they leave the engine in the car when they pulled the trans?
Or did they drop it too?

It's pretty easy to get the trans on with the engine out.
Leave the Tcase on.
Rotate the trans counterclockwise so the Tcase can pass the ear of the block.
Once it's past the ear, rotate back down and line up pins/bolts.

The trans has to be flat with the engine too, if it's crooked the input shaft won't want to slide into the clutch disc.

Also, it helps to have some strength, it's easier if you can manhandle it.

alltracman78...

I gave the shop access to the BGB for the Celica 1990-03 Alltrac plus suggestions from the other boards a week ago, but they still have not put everything back together. Up to now I did not rush them since I wanted the job to be done right, but now I need the car ASAP. Yesterday, I wreaked my other car... a 1999 Mercedes SLK230. It will probably take the insurance company's authorized repair shop about three weeks to fix it, assuming the insurance company doesn't decide to total it.

The extra bad news... I don't have rental car coverage on my insurance since I figured that I had the Celica as a backup.

I gave the shop working on the Celica your suggestion today, but not confortable that they will be able to get the job completed right away. Does anyone in this newsgroup live close enough to Garden Grove, California to be able to drop by and assist them? If so, maybe we can work out a deal!

-----------

AWDios... I did register at alltrac.net and cross posted my request for help.

Thanks,

Albert
