1984 celica gts drive shaft HELP!!!

so i bought a 1984 toyota celica gt-s today. i will spare you the long story but i had to put on a drive shaft. well half of one. the carrier barring needed to get replaced and the person just did not have the time. however they did give me the drive shaft that they pulled off of another celica (same year make modle) that had the barring on it. it is the half of the drive shaft that goes into the tranny. the other half that comes out of the rear diff is there and never been messed with...

now the problem is that it seems like it is about an inch and a half short.

so once i got under the car i stuck the one side into the trans, then i bolted the carrier barring bracket up to the holes of the frame, then as i went to then bolt up the two parts of the drive shaft together it was 1.5 inches short.

the person that i bought it from said that they compared the 2 drive shafts (the old one and the new one) and they were a perfect match. the only thing i can think of is that maybe the rear half of the drive shaft was different on the one they pulled the other half off of. either that or i am missing something or some step or trick to this thing...

please help!

I've done this on a '77 and an '80 Celica but not an '84.
The centre bearing can be removed from the half shafts.
Remove the bearing and use the original half shafts that came with your car.
