just got an 85 gt-s

i want to change the engine from a 22-re to something with more power.

anyone have any suggestions?
i've been saving up from my minimum wage job lol and i wanna start looking around for used engines that i could swap in.

Since you're in California, I would assume emissions are strict....
Most here -who know what is involved in a swap- would agree that keeping the 22RE is the best route. You can buy a hotter camshaft or turbo it, but keep in mind that they are not built for high rpm.

I agree with DCM.
Stick with the 22R-E and put a freeflow exhaust on it.
When you have more money, add a better cam and maybe an aftermarket ECU.

Not sure how tight the Californian laws are but if you can get hold of an 18R-GU then it will fit easily.
In Japan these had cats and produced 120-130HP at the flywheel.
Modified, mine is producing 118HP at the rear wheels (estimate 160HP at the flywheel).

can the 22re handle a supercharger, assuming i can find one/get one custom made?

If you wanna build the head. I've got an extra head laying around. Its still brand new never installed. As you save money you can build that head up and swap it onto your engine when you're done building it. $250 shipped.
