USA 20R conversion overheating

I have a 73' Celica that I put a 1980, 20R under the hood. Now the stock fan doesn't fit and I have tried a small Honda civic electric fan but, it's just not enough. Does anyone know of a different fan or radiator fan combo that may fit and do the job? I have already changed the thermostat, and the waterpump is good, and flow through the radiator seems good, it just won't run less than 210 degree (just crusing). Thanks for any help. Ken

Does the engine overheat in stop and go traffic? A fan will only help at low speeds and stop and go. At cruise the airflow through the radiator should be enough to do the job. Did you replace or put in all the radiator shrouds and dams? Is the radiator flowing enough coolant, this can often be deceiving.

Try using a fan from an early '80's Corolla. I swapped a 22R into my TE72 and used the stock rad and electric fan with no problems even on 100+ days.

I may have a problem in the radiator itself, because it overheats at both idle and at speed w/ the fan blowing. The fan is a small electric off a honda civic, its all that I could find to fit so far. The fan shroud is of my own makings, but it is a tite fit and should work. But like I said the fan is small. I will try anouther radiator and go from there . Thanks for the reply.KEN...

Sounds like something is blocked.
I went for a couple of years without any fan at all.
And that's in West Australian heat (similar to Californian weather).
Only had problem sin traffic jams.
Now I run an aftermarket electric fan with no problems (barely ever need to use it except in traffic jams).

A friend is running a Mazda 323 (circa 1980?) radiator and electric fan mounted in front of the rad support panel (to make room for a bigger engine).
Bolted straight up.

Is the water brown?
Have you checked the thermostat?
Are the rubber pipes in good condition? (ie you should not be able to squeeze them flat)
Any leaks?
Enough water in the rad?
Air pockets?
