22r-e Help

I have an 83 Celica with A 22R-E. I just got finished doing a head gasket on it. I'm pretty sure that I have everything timed right as far as cam and distributor, like 99% (but not 100%). The problem is when I'm driving I seems to misfire while cruising and stopped at idle. However under acceleration there seems to be no feeling of a misfire. I have double checked my work many times and I'm going crazy. Any suggestions at all will be appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my 18R-G.
The cam timing was out.

Put the engine at Top Dead Centre for cylinder #1.
Make sure that the notch in the cam shaft is also pointing straight up.

In the 18R-G manual they give the following as a double check...
Measure how high the lifters are for exhaust #2 and #4.
They should be the same.
Also check that inlet lifters #3 and #4 are the same height.

Another possibility is an inlet manifold leak.
Check hoses, etc.
Spray some water around the outside of the manifold.
If the misfire disappears then you found the trouble spot.

It sounds like there is a manifold leak, But that wasn't the problem. I found the no.2 plug wire was bad. So I found a spare off a neon. Idles great but now the top of the rpm band is misfiring. I think a new set of wires might fix it. hopefully.
