Question Hello im a Newbie with a Celica 2.0l sport

Hello all,
Just thought i would introduce myself and have a few questions for you all. I have just brought a Celica Sport 2.0L as my first car im 25 and just passed my test (long story) I love the toyota and came across a celica that had a miss fire, cutting along story short the celica had developed a miss-fire which when standing behind the car when its running you can smell alot of unburnt fuel. looking futher into this i think i have a problem with my head gasket. Is this a common problem on theses cars.

bad upkeep by previus owners o_O
I would as my next step for you, would be to get a fuel system cleaner aditive.
And run maybe one or two tanks of it.

Toyotas are pretty loyal and a little bit of work will get most toyotas running good again.
also can you be more specific on your car?
there are several sports models well they all are lol.

Year and make
IE. 1993 Celica GTS, 1989 GE it kight help to know how old of a car we looking at.

1. gap spark plugs (help? yes? you are done, if not, go on)
2. replace spark plugs (help? yes? you are done, if not, go on)
3. check the resistance of your plug wires, maybe one is damaged, you can buy a meter for about $12 (help? yes? you are done, if not, go on)
4. have your timing, and ignition system(maybe, even your fuel system) checked, if this is not the source of the problem, you just might have a more serious problem,
don't forget to replace all the things, that are not pertaining to this problem, I.E. oil, air filter, transmission fluid (filter? i don't know) maybe the fuel filter if you feel like it, and your car will treat you right for many years to come

Hello sorry for being a bit bleak, Its an L reg 2.0L, i have just taken off the head and found out where the problem lies, the piston had come up and crushed the the bolts against the head thus requiring a new head me thinks, Mental note check the nuts on the throttle butterfly just to be safe if you have one.
