well u saw the price on the rear LSD and driveshaft n all, and i have a friend who will do the change for me for a decent price so im not sure about the cost at a regular shop. only think i dont know about is if it will bolt up or not. i hear u have to get floor pans from an all trac for the rear transaxle to fit.

From what I've heard you're going to have to do a lot of custom fabrication to go FWD->AWD. At the very least you'll need to change out the suspension and drill some holes cause the mounting points aren't there. Supposedly you'll need a different computer too, cause the pre-existing one doesn't know how to deal with the extra drivetrain load or whatever.

This is just what I've heard from Toyota mechanics though, I don't know specifics. If you can do it though, more power to ya!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

YOU CANT CONVERT FWD->AWD! PERIOD!

The amount of work and money involved is not worth the out come cause its not gaurantied it will work. If you want all wheel drive BUY all wheel drive.
JFYI here is a list of what is needed in order to do the work.
AWD floor pan from bulkhead to tail light support
AWD brake, gas, return lines
AWD rear rebar
AWD gas tank, filler neck, straps
AWD rear sub frame shocks, brakes, hubs, control arms, driveshafts, axle shafts, diff, ebrake cables
AWD exhaust
AWD tranny, clutch, pressure plate
AWD front drive axles
AWD shifter cables
AWD cross members and tranny mounts

Now prove me wrong and find a shop that will actually undertake this transformation and someone with more money than brians to fund it and I'll eat my words.

Not trying to start a flame war...just voicing my opinion. How much is he charging you for the labour? How much is the parts going to cost? In the end It would be more pratical to buy and Alltrac. Good luck getting the floors from a Toyota dealer....this car is already 10+ years old and Im sure they dont stock parts like that in there warehouses for cars of this age, just try finding a skirt or turbo that doesnt have to be shipped in from Japan. I would love to see some pics of your friends conversion. In all likely hood the floor is going to have to come from a donor Alltrac, in which case you might as well keep it that way. You have to remember that there is alot more than just the floor that needs to be replaced...there is alot of structural metal added in the Alltrac floor plan to make the body more rigid for the AWD drivetrain. What year Celica did your friend do the conversion? Is he a licensed autobody repair man as well? Do you have any pics of his conversion? How much did it cost him in parts to do the conversion? Like Brink said you will also need the ECU from the Alltrac with the different maps for the added driveline compnents and added weight. Also a 5sfe/3sfe wont make any where the amount of HP and TQ needed to propel the car forward do to the added weight and driveline components. Like I said earlier it would be more practical to buy an Alltrac...took me 10 mins to find these ones.

1988 Alltrac

1991 Alltrac

1990 Alltrac

1990 Alltrac

1993 Alltrac
