Stock vs stock? The sr20det wins hands down. Why? A 2.0 turbo engine vs a NA 2.0 engine. Which one would you pick? The turbo one right? Plus, a 1st generation 3sge isn't really anything too special.

The '89 3S-GE is pretty slow. I'd say the celica won due to the driver factor.

Beams (Blacktop) 3SGE would rape a SR20DE stock. 3rd gen 3SGTE and SR20DET are pretty evenly matched...

Even a '98/'99 3sge isn't much of anything when compared to an sr20det. Stock for stock sr20det is the better engine hands down. Even mod ability the sr20det is the better engine.

All of those sites have enough listed or searchable content to answer your question. It's not one that should be asked. If you want to know about street racing... Knock yourself out on youtube videos. I'm sure theres tons of sr20 and 3sge videos there.

If you really care about the mechanical differences in the engines, which from an engineering standpoint makes one better than the other. We're not going to do your research for you. You really have to give someone a reason first. Just because you want to know why one wins in a race. Isn't influancing enough for me to elaborate on the topic.

Why compare an NA engine to a turbo one?

If you wanna boil down to it, the 3SGTE won more races for racing Toyotas than the SR20DET in racing Nissans, if that answers your question. If it's the RB26, on the otherhand...

Then you would have to bring out the 2jzgte and then it would beat the rb26, The sr20det would be a better motor out of the 3sfe and sr20 in my opnion.

3SGE vs SR20DE

Ive owned both a Celica GT-S with a 3SGE and a 91 NX2000 with an SR20DE.

SR20 will eat a 3SGE.

For one, I'm not to sure even due to weather conditions that a 3SGE engine could beat an SR20DET engine..My friend has an SR20DET Red Top in his 240 , and when I first got my 89 Celica GT-S with a 3SGE engine in it , he beat me by like, 10 car lengths..No way a 3SGE stocked could take an SR20DET , whether black top or red top.

But on the other hand, a 3SGTE engine could definitly, if not beat it, keep up with it.

On paper this sounds highly unlikely ...
