84 celica new project

i just got a 84 celica w/ 50,000 original miles on it, its a gts model with 5 speed, sunroof, and the 22r motor, i plan on turboing or swapping the engine , i've read about the gt-tr celica models but cannot find anywhere who would sell the engine. another option would be a 4agze turbo swap, or possibly a rotary turbo, im not sure of the performance and reliability of the 22r, built for turbo, also would i need to swap the pistons or can i run say 6-8psi on a ct-26 on stock internals, i know built the can handle a decent amount, this goes with out sayin, arp head bolts and metal head gasket, turbo pistons are failry cheap around 250 for rings and pistons, im tossing around just putting them and running around 10psi, but im not sure, and info on the 22r turbo is hard to find, thanks again, ill get picks soon

The 84 GT-TR is a Japan only model with the 3T-GTE (or if you are realy, really lucky the 4T-GTE). This is nearly impossible to find in the US but quite common from second hand Japanese market cars (which is a thriving business here in Australia).

The 22R-TE turbo engine was designed for use in trucks, havinglots of low end grunt but nto much up top.
But plenty of people have upgraded them for use in Celicas.
Unfortunately, the 22R-TE was never sold here in Australia so I can't say much more about them.

Read this for other engine swap ideas.
