Torquing head

Anyone know how I should torque the head bolts on an '89 Celica with the 4afe 1.6 engine? I have read about three different ways. I went by the Chilton's manual which said to torque them in three steps to 47ft/lbs (I think). Others say to torque to a lower value then another 90deg in three steps. Yet another source said torque to a value then two 90deg turns.

What is the correct method?

Thanks,

Lou

Thanks,

Thanks so much. I will double check the value I used. At least I know we weren't supposed to do the "clocking method".

Mostly all Toyotas do have the 90degree angle torque my Tercel had to have the 90degrees as well so get used to it if youre thinkin about taking the head off of something, 90degrees is a piece of cake...just use a johson bar ...try 180dgrees on a VW thats a bitch

Yeah most Toyota engines have an angle torque spec so get used to it my Tercel has the same thing 22ft/lbs 34ft/lbs and then the 90degrees its a piece of cake comepared to the 180degrees for a VW... anyways as far as torque specs always call a Toyota dealer they should be able to help you out and i find theyre the best, i dont trust the aftermarket manuels
