2004 celica loosing coolant

I have an '04 celica gt with aprox 90k on it. i've had it since 1200 miles, and have always taken care of the engine. Since the last coolant flush, i've been loosing coolant slowly. It's more noticible now that the weather is getting cold, and I have to add a little water about every week or two to keep the heater core working. Someone told me that it's a head gasket, and that the coolant is going out my exaust pipe. It would make sence, since there are no leaks.

The question I have is: what does it cost to replace a head gasket? Or is there some other problem.

Thanks for your help in advance.

No... I don't even think thats possible. Your water pump is probably the problem, your coolant can actually leak out without you even noticing a leak with this problem. All your head gasket does is make a seal between the block and the head so that your cylinders get compression. The Block being the part where the actual cylinders and pistons are, and the Head being the part where your intake and exhaust valves are, the camshaft, the spark plugs, ect. If your head gasket was bad you'd be having some other engine issues. I'm not an expert just what I know from self teaching. It seems to me that if you were leaking coolant into your cylinders that you would have a crack in your engine some where. And if this was the case then you wouldn't be getting good compression in your cylinders causing your engine not to run.

Not trying to rant hear just explaining my reasoning for believing what I believe it to be. I think its your water pump.

I agree with the water pump as the fix for this. ESP since your at 90k on your car. If you have never changed the water pump id def recommend you do that.
