Cool Hey toyota peeps! Remote start question :)

Hey everyone!

I'm new here, and I guess I just need one quick question answered.
I'm putting a remote start and alarm system in my sister's 03 Celica GT (manual) for her Christmas present, and I need to know if I need to get a security bypass module to do that.

I myself own a 00 Saturn SL2, and that thing had a GM Passlock system that needed to be disabled before I could remote-start the car.

So I'm wondering if that has to be done with the Celica. Also, what is the best way to hook up the keyless entry to it? Is it enough to just splice into the stock door lock buttons, or does this car have a BCM (body control module) that can be piggybacked? Thanks!

First of all are you installing this yourself or is a place doing it? As nice as an idea that is for a x-mas present as far as here in MD it is illegal to have automatic start on a manual transmission car. It is a saftey thing because some people leave their car in gear and if you start it or try to start it the car will jump forward and cause some damage to alot of stuff, then if you forget to pull the parking brake up then your car can just drift away. So unless you are doing this on your own and your sister is aware of the precautions she would have to remember before hitting that button, I don't know it is up to you guys.
As for the power door locks, the 03 celica should have factory power locks with a remote and a security system, my 00 has it so I would think being an 03 it would too. So you shouldn't have to worry about bypassing that it should be plug and play and the module should be under the drivers side dash, and is a black box with 3 connectors running into it, that is toyota's version(once again on mine 00 model) and for the door locks it does have a BCM so you could do it the really good way and piggyback it, or just splice into the door lock button. I don't know if the module will work with you doing that being you are going after market but I hope this gave you some insight and help, I guess if you have any more questions just post them up.

A remote start system in any manual car is a bad idea. I hear a lot of stories where people leave them in gear...

thanks for the replies

I've installed several of these in different cars, and one in my 00 saturn.
The main thing I was wondering was the stock engine shut-off system. My saturn had the GM Passlock system for which I neede to buy a module to override it, otherwise the car would kill the engine whenever you tried to remote start it without a key. I talked to my friend who works at cartoys and he said no such module is needed for the Celica. Good!

Yeah me and my sis are both aware of the dangers of leaving it in gear. She always leaves it in neutral with the ebrake on. And so do I.

I got an aftermarket system. Pyle-something. It's a two-way alarm with remote start I'll let you know if I have any questions about the installation when I'm doing it Never worked on a Celica before. I've always been modifying saturns for as long as I remember lol Looks like Celica should be fun. I plan on buying some more stuff for her to make it go a lil faster, so I'll be lurking around
