USA Surging issues on a 2001 GT

I am having surging problems with my car. I have an after market cold air intake and I have been told that the map sensor could be the cause of that. Any one have any suggestions on any other possible cause and how to go about checking to see if those are the problems. Also anyone know how to clean a map sensor?

Put the stock airbox in see if it goes away.

I would but the stock air box was crushed when I drove my car at 80 mph into a concrete jersey barrier. Dont worry the concrete barrier was fine. I have had the after market cold air intake for over 30k miles with out a problem.

the maf sensor is the one that bolts to your air intake with two tiny screws.
You unscrew them and pull the maf out. Then you take some carb cleaner and q-tip and lightly clean the inside of the sensor. You dont take it apart or open to do so. Clean the spots you can reach. There is a red bulb looking thing you need to clean and also there are two tiny wires with small resistors on them you need to clean. I found it usefull to also use a small piece of cloth when cleaning them. After you do that use another q-tip and/or piece of cloth and this time with water clean the unit. You do this to make sure there is no residue left from the carb cleaner. Get a carb cleaner that does not include a lubricatant. Do not use brake cleaner. Be carefull when cleaning the tiny wires. they are as delicate as they look. just lightly brush them. You might have difficulty finding them, but just keep looking they are there. Shine a flashlight in there at different angles to locate them.

This may sound difficult but it isnt.

They problem may or may not go away. For a lot of us we end up having to do a mod dubbed the BBmod for the guy who came up with it BLUEBOMBER. It involves cutting out the stock maf sensor dock and cutting a length of the cold air intake out and attaching the stock piece. I have my intake on for 2 years before I had an issue, and then the problem didnt go away untill I did the mod. Have no idea why this happens but it does.
Good luck

If your having surging, bogging, and CEL with an aftermarket CAI, I would suggest cleaning your MAFS with non chlorinated brake cleaner not carb cleaner as stated above, if that doesn't work you will need to do the "BB" mod. Here is a link.
