Free Flowing Exhaust on 4AFE??

I am building a track car from a 93 Celica that I bought for $100. It has a blown head gasket and I'm getting it decked and valves rebuilt...

My question is..

How much power can be gained by opening up the exhaust and doing some ram air intake work (in other words, what are some non-street-legal mods that can free up some power in this motor?)

(*yeah, i know* we can swap something -- but I am not interested -- this motor is fine -- just want cheap wheels for the track).

So, 4AFE gurus, Can i do some MAF work and build a ram air system with a free flow exhaust and do anything?

Thanks!

Brian

Get a header and match the exhaust size to it. Don't know how much HP I got but power band moved higher. Lowend did suffer but highend is nice. Whatever intake you make just make sure it get air outside engine bay.
The 4A-FE does like to rev pass 6k.

Has anybody here had luck with these ebay headers?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-97...spagenameZWDVW

This is a race application, i don't care about:
1) SMOG equipment or passing emissions and
2) Sound
3) mating up with the stock cat-back or stock exhaust, they are gone.

thoughts anybody?

I know that a corolla is NOT a celica, but is the 4AFE the same? Will this bolt up with minimal fabrication?

A good set of cams are what the 4a needs to open up, the stock cams make it a dog of an engine. If you cant at least get into cams don't bother. It was designed as an economy engine, and does a damn fine job.
