USA ECT what?

I have a '92 Celcia GT and I was just wondering if anyone here knows the soul purpose of the ECT button. I tried looking it up on the internet, but no one could give an accurate explanation.

I'm assuming that's the button that also says "pwr" or "power"? It changes the shift points on an automatic transmission for better acceleration and firmer shifts.
Of course, if you have a standard transmission, you wouldn't have that button.

In my old Cressida, I just left it on the "power" setting all the time.
